Today is Nowruz, the Persian New Year. I’d like to wish everyone Nowruz Mobarak!
I’ve long appreciated Persian culture — I am yet to meet an inhospitable Iranian.
The University of St Andrews has a prestigious Persian programme and a very active, friendly and welcoming student Persian Society, who hold fabulous events:

Our family has been lucky to have many British friends in Iran and Iranian friends in Britain over the years. I recently became Godfather to a charming Anglo-Persian boy.

While I have not traveled to Iran yet, I have very much enjoyed visiting my friend Anahita’s art gallery in Berlin, attending beautiful poetry nights and gallery openings.
It was an honour to co-officiate a traditional Iranian wedding ceremony with Anahita.

It’s never an Iranian gathering, without a bit of celebratory singing and dancing…
And no celebration would be complete without a cup of Persian Apothecary tea…
Wherever you are and however you’re celebrating, I wish you a Happy Nowruz!
