The difference in school reports
My school reports started off well at Lawhead Primary School, the state school on the edge of St Andrews where I started my education.
When I moved to New Park, a selective prep school in town, it was a different picture.
I’m all for high standards, but surely there’s a limit to the number of times an 8 year needs to be told their results have been “something of a disappointment.” How rude !
Moving to St Katharine’s School, the junior school of St Leonard’s School & Sixth Form College, was a welcome confidence boost.
“Intelligent”, “well mannered” “a pleasure to teach” — the school was so much more nurturing, encouraging and positive. I thrived and loved my time there.

And yet if I remember correctly in spite of all this you did aged 9 win the top mark, jointly with Matilda, in the English Exam at New Park!
I remember your work at New Park was harder than Mary's at Madras who was 2 years above you!
Education, education, education! Amusing New Park and St Katharine's then merged. You never know what happens in life.
