This I Know
Life’s Little Learnings
"Wisest is he who knows he does not know" — Socrates
Today is my 13,398 day on Planet Earth and I’m glad to say I’m still learning new things.
I am grateful to be alive, with a roof over my head, food to eat and people to greet.
There may be a lot I still have to learn, but I do know that we always feel better after a walk outside, that sometimes a glass of water or a cup of herbal tea, a pause and a reset can work wonders — the less time we spend in hospital, the healthier we seem to be.
Squats and lunges may feel a little funny, but they no doubt have benefits in the long run.
Meeting and engaging with people from different backgrounds, cultures and views is almost always a joy; it can change how we see the world. Dining is more fun when shared.
There is something so special about seeing old friends and family, who have known us for a very long time. These bonds are priceless.
Music has the power to lift our spirits and soothe our souls. I’ve been reflecting on Mary Magdalene’s song “Could we start again please?” from Jesus Christ Superstar recently.
It chimes with this Coldplay lyric:
“Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start.”
In a sense, every new day provides the opportunity to start again.
As the awesome Olivia Dean sings:
“It's a gift to exist, it's a wonder to taste
And it's hard to resist when it's all on my plate
Alright”
We learnt in GCSE Biology class that our bodies are an ever-replenishing mass of cells. Like plants, we need water and sunshine to thrive.
Apparently our livers regenerate every three years, which might be just as well in my case.
Love and lightness are the true luxuries in life.

Engaging our five senses is blissful, whether it be the tastebud-tingling sensation of a Red Thai Curry, the subtle scent of Le Labo Rose 31 eau de parfum, the soaring-sound of The Lark Ascending, the joyful-sight of a beautifully illustrated children’s book or the comforting touch of cuddling with a dog.
Magic happens every day, in the most unlikely of places. We only have to open our eyes!
